Hafodunos Hall.

Built by the Sandbach family in the 1820s on the site of a much older house, this beautiful building sat empty for years until it was set alight by vandals about 3 yrs ago, i'm glad i saw it before the destruction.
It's surrounded by a wildly romantic victorian garden full of huge specimen trees an shrubs..
access is now restricted but a walk has been renovated through the garden.

It looks like something out of an original gothic novel. What a beautiful and romantic place.

Beautiful building what a tragedy - it is no more?

Wow, that is beautiful in such a haunting way. I'd love to investigate it.

By the way, I'd love to meet up. Email me and we can perhaps sort something out.

Hello Jo,
The house is so evocative in its current state; it must have been a real showplace in its glory.
I can imagine that the emptiness may have resulted from some family property dispute.
If you do turn up the history book, please let us know more about the Hall.

p.s. Welcome to the new common room, too!

I've got a wonderful book on the vanishing country houses of Ireland, it is so terribly sad to see great houses like this disappear around the country.

Hi again,
How could I forget the moss! I love moss, much prefer it to grass. Thanks for the 'energy' explanation re. the forests;it makes sense to me now. I've read a book that features an old house, (your pic brought back the memory) which I will try and recall, it was a good book and would be a good one for the purple book group. I mention it in an earlier blog so I will trawl back.
